Disaster
Resilience

Supporting governments, non-profits, and community partners to design policies, programs, and projects that mitigate impacts from climate change and natural hazards, while strengthening economies and supporting whole community resilience.

CDR understands how disasters like floods, extreme heat, drought, wildfire, landslides, and erosion are interconnected. We apply expertise from each of our practice areas to deliver innovative, cross-sector solutions. Our collaborative approach integrates community and cultural values with the best-available climate science, focused on action and multiple benefits. This looks like revitalizing community buildings into energy-efficient spaces and emergency shelters during extreme events; implementing multi-modal transportation systems that double as emergency routes and emission reducers; and establishing criteria to effectively balance land use, water availability, and economic impacts.

CDR supports this work by fostering partnerships, supporting complex decision-making, and facilitating meaningful community engagement that drives bold action in the near term and robust resilience in the long term.

Flood Mitigation &
Watershed Management

From large-scale land use planning to neighborhood and site-level projects, CDR understands how ecosystem services support more flood-resilient landscapes and communities.

Forests & Fires

CDR supports coordinated work across agencies, landowners, and Tribal and local partners for forest health and more effective wildfire mitigation and recovery.

Environmental & Climate Justice

CDR partners with communities facing disproportionate impacts from climate change and natural disasters. Our team is ready to provide grant support, project management, strategic planning and program evaluation for climate resilience projects.

Tribal Nations & Indigenous Communities

CDR supports Tribal governments and Indigenous-led organizations in exercising political sovereignty for culturally-specific resilience plans, policies, and programs.

Green Infrastructure

Green infrastructure—at multiple scales—mitigates impacts from fires, floods, erosion, and heat islands. CDR supports partners across levels of government and private- and nonprofit-sector partners in implementing multi-benefit, nature-based solutions.

Sustainable Energy

CDR helps foster new partnerships and build trust to support reliable and renewable power. Our team facilitates early-stage agreements, helps to address interconnection and operation issues, and supports project funding and implementation.
